Introduction

Hello Everyone, and welcome to my new Atheism themed blog!

I've spent an awful lot of time over the last couple years debating Theists over religious and social issues, and found myself many times arguing the same misconceptions and bad arguments. Hopefully through this Blog I will be able to clearly define what Atheism is, and what my take on the issues are.

As for me, I'm a 29 year old Atheist. I was raised in a Christian (Presbyterian) family, however we were never seriously religious. We went to church weekly when I was young, but stopped going when I was roughly 10 years old.

Through my teenage years I started to have doubts towards the teachings of the church, but never put too much thought into them until my first girlfriend convinced me to go to church a few times with her around the age of 18. I figured it would be a good way to re-connect and learn about what the church was actually teaching.

When I attended as a kid I usually was downstairs at Sunday School while the communion was going on, so I had never really partaken in it before. I was actually quite surprised at what I saw...  the reverend was reading his sermon, and people around me were having full on "spiritual experiences", raising their hands in the air and seeming like they were in a trance. I found it incredibly bizarre and started to wonder what these people were experiencing that I simply wasn't getting....  So, I started studying up on religion and views opposed to religion.

I can't remember clearly, however I believe I (mistakenly) labelled myself as Agnostic even before I started attending church again. Over the span of a few years of reading and research, and actually learning definitions, I discovered I was actually by definition an Atheist. At that point I started labelling myself as such.

Since that time I have continued reading much about Christianity, and to a lesser extent other religions. On this blog, I hope I will be able to share what I've learned through all those years of reading, research and debate, as well as give commentary on relevant current events.

I hope you enjoy it!
